Changing My Nose Ring

Little known/noticed fact about me:  I’ve had my nose pierced for the past 7 years.  Often people will go months before first noticing my nose piercing.  My A noticed it right a way, naturally.  I’ve had a tiny, silver ring in my nose since January ’05, I haven’t removed it since.  Its barely noticeable.  Before that I had a garish blue stone in my nose for a couple of years.  At the time I decided it would be better, for  my career, to have a less noticeable nose ring.  I WORK IN LEFT POLITICS!  These aren’t the sort of people who frown on anything you choose to do to/with your body but alas, I was young.

Well since looking at gorgeous Indian Wedding Blogs for the past year and just falling in love with the gaudiness of how Indian women can adorn themselves (My grandmother once told me that more and bigger is better when it comes to jewelry and I subscribe to the same philosophy) I’ve decided to change my nose ring, into a standard sized stud, perhaps white, maybe green (or purple).  The problem lies in the pain!  I pretty much remember how much it hurts to get your nose pierced and when they change your stud they essentially rip it out and shove a new one in, especially since nose rings are shaped like bell bars your hole is too small for the end!  I am going to need to work up the nerve but I am changing it soon!

  1. I got my nose pierced when I was 21 and I have worn a tiny nose pin on and off. Somehow my hole never closed even though I change it often and go through long periods without it. I only use the curly Indian wire nose pins, though.
    looks like this: http://www.goldpalace.com/page/GPJI/PROD/NP/29756

I couldn’t manage thicker ones or the kind with a ball on the end. Good luck with the change.

    • the one I had twisted a bit more, the stud would get caught on a towel when i was drying my face and half rip out….come to think about it, that’s why I ditched the stud! Maybe I am rethinking this…

      • If my twisty part is too long or big, I clip off a bit and then file it down. Never had a problem. Just a thought.

  2. lol… cute :) Ive had mine pierced since 2000 and Ive had the same twisted gold diamond stud since 2003 This stud was much bigger than the ones I had been wearing and I was very weary when I initially put it in, but I breathed in and shoved it in. Well not literally ;) I didnt actually take that out until maybe 5 years later. I sometimes have to take it out for work now, but the main thing I have problems with is the twist in the stud. I dont know if you have this type in USA, they arent just a straight bar but it twists in to stop it from falling out

  3. I’ve had my nose pierced since 2004, and I really like it. I’ve had the same nose stud for the past four years, and love it… it was a gift from P on valentine’s day. It is small and inconspicuous, and has a tiny ball at the end so it is very easy to pull on and off. He might have bought it at Brilliant Earth.

It’s interesting though, because even though I’m very interested in South Asian culture, I don’t think I have the type of personality that people would right away think– oh yeah, nose piercing, that makes sense! Maybe because of that, and the fact that it is small, people often don’t notice (One of my friends at dinner the other night– who has known me for almost four years now just noticed it!). But I don’t mind, because I feel the nose piercing, more than anything, is for me. I got it done in Kenya, and it reminds me of happy times in Africa :)

  4. I just got my nose pierced for the first time and once it healed I put in a little stud that is a cluster of tiny stones. I got it from http://store.krishna.com/Search.bok?category=Jewelry:Noserings&bar=_shp_ap-jewelry , which I think is a store run by Hare Krishnas! I love how it looks and it is very Indian.

  5. Did you end up changing your nose piercing?

I have a tiny diamond stud (screw). An amethyst one and an emerald one have been on my to-buy list for quite a while now. I got my diamond from BodySparkle.

    • not yet, I need to find the time to actually go out and look for a nose ring. Upon consideration, I am not sure if a stone stud is right for me, I might go the way of an actual hoop.

  6. The one that I wear is a screw type, I just stick in the outer part and then screw on the inner piece and done. It doesn’t hurt at all, unless I buy a larger size and then it does take a bit of shoving.

  7. I wanted at one point a small thin hoop that hugged the bottom of my nose.. Im yet to find such a small one
