Yesterday a friend of mine gchatted me a recipe for chicken pot pie and for the rest of the day I dreamt of chicken pot pie. I knew I was going to A’s after work so the idea of the fish curry and daal that I would have to eat was not really hitting the spot, I tried to think of ways to trick A into allowing me to serve with pot pie and then it dropped right into my lap.
“I am going to be at the gym till at least 7:30, can you pick up something for dinner?” SCORE! POT PIE HERE WE COME!!!!
Now for my non-American readers, let me explain chicken pot pie. It’s sort of the ultimate comfort food, chicken, rich gravy and vegetable baked into a delicious pastry (either puff or pie crust) it’s fantastic on days like yesterday. When the northeast was finally at its first chill. This was the perfect meal for last night.

So I went to Trader Joe’s and picked up a pre-made pot pie (I totally didn’t feel like making one, sorry) and I also picked up a jar of their cranberry sauce because they were featuring it at their sample counter (it was good).
So I brought it home and A hemmed and hawed as he usually does at the thought of eating American food that is not a cheeseburger, steak or pizza. When I put the cranberry sauce on my plate next to the pot pie, he was disgusted “You people eat fruit with dinner!” he proclaimed and I the woman of proud German ancestry exclaimed “We do! Now shut it and eat your pot pie!”
Well folks, we know how the story ends (well not entirely) A loved all of it, ate seconds of the pie AND the sauce. Then he did the unthinkable. This morning he microwaved his milk (blech) poured his cereal in his bowl, picked up the jar of cranberry sauce and ate it with his breakfast….SIGH

That reminds me of the time I made apple pie and BB was disgusted saying “Why do you eat cooked fruit?”. He asked last week if I would make it again…
I LOVE Chicken Pot Pies. I have made them from scratch before, so yummy.
I love the fact he ate the cranberry sauce with breakfast, lol.
lol.. gotta love these brown things
last year we went to my dads for Xmas dinner.. hubby now loves cranberry sauce, stuffing and has agreed with my distaste of yorkshire puddings
I love introducing him to new things
What is yorkshire pudding? Is that blood pudding?
Cute! I can’t wait to make chicken pot pie for Dak, although since I’m a veg, I guess I’ll make two versions.
I was so happy that I got Dak to like pasta. He thought he hated it (it’s not well made in India generally) before I made him some good ole Southern baked macaroni and cheese.
