I Am a Living Cliche’

What are you resolving this year?  This is not a resolution but rather a gift that will (hopefully) change me.

Let me back up.  January of 2008 I was living in Manchester, NH.  It was very snowy and cold, the Presidential Primaries were in full gear and I was 50lbs overweight.  I resolved to change my body, with a friend (who I ended up moving in with in Philly by February).  We joined Weight Watchers and became one another’s support system.  By January 2009 I was 43lbs lighter, a pretty tremendous feat.  2 years have passed and the pounds are creeping back up…

In November I got a great little gift in my inbox, a Living Social deal for a local gym, Lithe Method.  An acquaintance of mine lost about 60lbs going to these classes and raves about but it reallllllll expensive.  So when I had the opportunity to try it for the cost of an average dinner out, I jumped.  3 classes later, I am hooked.

BONUS: Their instructors all have different body types. This is one of my instructors, Bari, who is short and has "ghetto booty" just like me!

Because of the price of the classes, the shopping that’s done in December, plus the last payment of a massive credit card, I couldn’t quite afford the high price tag for my first month of membership.  A gave me my first month for Christmas, so starting tonight, I am attending classes 5 times a week.  When my 30 days are up, I am purchasing my next month.  I am forgoing eating lunch out, buying clothes/shoes/accessories and cable to afford this gym.  I will continue to do so until I have a strong body.

So for this New Year I will continue the good work of 3 years ago, wish me luck and Happy New Year’s to all!

  1. Happy New Year! All the best in your endeavor!

Incidentally, my wife started with WW this summer and she’s very happy with how it is coming along.

  2. Well, you look beautiful to me, I think that whenever I see your pic. I am a forever WW girl and it is the best thing. Did you know the plan has changed a bit and fruit are free? It’s a good time to rejoin and get on track,

  3. Best of luck.
Happy New Year, may 2011 bring you every happiness and confidence.
Remember that when we change our bodies, our mind has to catch up too.
You are not the person that you were, you have grown – recognise that!
    :)

  4. I gained 30lbs in 2 years of me and Aj dating (he gained about 20lbs, so I’m glad it wasn’t just me). Then I lost 25lbs on WW a little over a year ago. Sadly, about 18 of those lbs have creeped back up in the last 9 months. A few of my friends and co-workers have made it a goal to run a half marathon this coming June. I’m hoping that will do the trick.

    Good luck!
